Maria Papaioannou

Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Dr. Maria Papaioannou knew from an early age her passion for animals would lead her to a career in Veterinary medicine. While receiving her BS in Biology from Wagner College, she volunteered at a local animal hospital as a veterinary assistant and interned at the hospital of the Staten Island Zoo. Dr. Papaioannou earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Go Buckeyes! During her studies, she completed small animal externships at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan and at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey. Additionally, she was given the opportunity to participate in a clinical clerkship working on elephants and aquatics at Chiang Mai University in Thailand. After graduation, she completed her one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the ASPCA Animal Hospital in Manhattan. Excited to be part of the Chelsea team, her professional interests include preventive, internal, and emergency medicine as well as surgery. She believes in the importance of exceptional practice and is committed to furthering her education to guarantee high-quality medicine.

When her lab coat is hung on a hook, Dr. P can be found vacationing with family in Greece, making homemade pasta with her Italian grandmother, and spending time with friends and her two dogs, Jack and Gino!
